We are seeking a hands-on Senior IT Support Specialist / Junior Systems Administrator to join our IT team. This position is ideal for an experienced desktop/support professional who has progressed beyond traditional help desk responsibilities and has practical experience administering Windows environments, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, user permissions, and basic server infrastructure.

The candidate will provide day-to-day technical support to employees while also assisting with the administration, maintenance, and security of the IT environment. The role requires someone who is comfortable troubleshooting problems independently, working directly with users, and escalating more complex infrastructure or security issues when appropriate.

This is a technical, hands-on position with significant opportunity to expand systems administration and cybersecurity experience.


Key Responsibilities


Desktop and End-User Support

  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for employees using Windows desktops and laptops.

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, networking, printing, and connectivity issues.

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot company desktop applications.

  • Support Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and related services.

  • Diagnose application compatibility, performance, authentication, and connectivity problems.

  • Configure and deploy new computers for employees.

  • Perform workstation replacements, upgrades, migrations, and user profile transfers.

  • Support remote employees and troubleshoot VPN, Wi-Fi, home-network, and remote-access issues.

  • Assist employees with mobile devices and Microsoft 365 connectivity when required.

  • Document recurring issues and develop internal troubleshooting procedures and knowledge-base articles.


Active Directory and Identity Administration

  • Create, modify, disable, and maintain Active Directory user and computer accounts.

  • Manage security groups, distribution groups, organizational units, and group memberships.

  • Manage file and folder permissions using appropriate security groups and least-privilege principles.

  • Troubleshoot authentication, account lockout, password, and domain-join issues.

  • Assist with Group Policy administration and troubleshooting.

  • Support employee onboarding, role changes, and offboarding.

  • Perform periodic reviews of user accounts, group memberships, and permissions.

  • Assist with Microsoft Entra ID administration and synchronization between on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft cloud services.


Microsoft 365 Administration

  • Administer Microsoft 365 user accounts, licenses, groups, and permissions.

  • Support Exchange Online and Outlook administration.

  • Manage shared mailboxes, distribution lists, mailbox permissions, and email-related configuration.

  • Assist with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive administration.

  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365 authentication and synchronization issues.

  • Assist with MFA, Conditional Access, and other Microsoft 365 security controls under the direction of senior IT/security personnel.

  • Assist with Microsoft 365 security alerts, account investigations, and access reviews when required.


Windows Server and Systems Administration

  • Perform routine administration of Windows Server systems.

  • Monitor server health, disk utilization, services, event logs, and system performance.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting of Windows Server issues.

  • Assist with Windows Server patching and maintenance.

  • Manage file shares, NTFS permissions, and network resources.

  • Assist with DNS, DHCP, Active Directory Domain Services, and related Windows infrastructure.

  • Assist with backup monitoring and restoration of files or systems when required.

  • Perform basic administration of virtual servers and virtual machines.

  • Assist senior IT staff with server upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure projects.


Endpoint and Security Administration

  • Assist with administration of endpoint security and management platforms.

  • Verify that company endpoints have required security software, patches, encryption, and configuration.

  • Assist with endpoint detection and response/antivirus alerts and remediation.

  • Help maintain accurate hardware and software inventories.

  • Assist with vulnerability remediation and workstation/server patching.

  • Follow established cybersecurity policies and security procedures.

  • Escalate suspected cybersecurity incidents promptly.

  • Support implementation of least privilege, MFA, device security, and other security controls.

  • Assist with evidence collection and documentation related to internal security and SOC 2 compliance activities.


IT Operations

  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, applications, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Manage and update support tickets from initial request through resolution.

  • Coordinate with software vendors and external support providers when necessary.

  • Assist with hardware and software purchasing, deployment, lifecycle management, and inventory.

  • Participate in IT infrastructure, security, and technology improvement projects.

  • Identify repetitive support issues and recommend opportunities for automation or standardization.

  • Provide backup coverage for other members of the IT team.


Required Qualifications

  • Strong Windows 10/11 troubleshooting and administration skills.

  • Strong experience supporting Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications.

  • Practical experience administering Active Directory.

  • Experience managing:

    • User accounts

    • Security groups

    • File/folder permissions

    • Computer accounts

    • Password and authentication issues

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID.

  • Basic Windows Server administration experience.

  • Understanding of fundamental networking concepts including:

    • TCP/IP

    • DNS

    • DHCP

    • VPN

    • Wi-Fi

    • Firewalls

    • Remote access

  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, application, and connectivity problems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues independently and methodically.

  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.

  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical employees.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple requests and priorities in a small, fast-moving IT environment.

  • VPN and remote-access technologies

  • Endpoint management platforms

  • Endpoint detection and response (EDR/XDR) platforms

  • SentinelOne or similar endpoint security products

  • Fortinet/FortiGate or other business firewalls

  • Backup and disaster-recovery systems

  • IT asset management

  • Ticketing systems

  • Vulnerability management

  • Security awareness and cybersecurity best practices

  • SOC 2 or other compliance environments


PowerShell experience is particularly valuable, although advanced scripting experience is not required. The candidate should be interested in developing automation and administration skills over time.
